Frequently Asked Questions
Applied behaviour analysis (ABA) is a science that looks to solve problems that may be impacting ones quality of life. Clinicians in ABA look at how the environment can be adapted to promote skills that enhance one’s choice, independence and safety.
An ABA consultation is a 1hr consultation in which a clinician will provide you with proactive strategies and ideas on how to promote a skill throughout your daily life. ABA service is a more in-depth process that provide you and your family with a tailored plan, monitoring and training to promote skills and/or reduce interfering behaviour(s).
- Contact Us
Using the Get in Touch tab, contact Mountain Top Behavioural Consultation using the contact tab, outlining a general description of your concerns. Please do not provide any personal health information (e.g., Name of client, Date of birth, diagnoses, etc.). - Free 30-minute Consultation
A clinician will contact you with some dates and times for a free 30-minute initial consultation via the phone or Zoom. Initial consultations will outline what type of service best fits your needs. - Service Contract
If you choose to continue the service with Mountain Top Behaviour Consultation, a behaviour service contract will be provided and a 1-hour intake assessment will be conducted to gain detailed information into your family’s specific needs and values. - Behaviour Service Plan
Following the intake assessment, a functional behaviour assessment (if needed) and a behaviour service plan will be created to structure our work together. - Behaviour Program and Training
For each of the goals, a tailored behaviour program will be created to guide us towards your goals. These plans will be delivered by both clinicians and caregivers. Caregivers will receive additional training to continue the learning outside of sessions. - Performance Data and Summary
As the behaviour programs are being implemented a Behaviour Analyst will monitor programs and make data-based decisions to ensure that learning is continuing. Following mastery of the goals a behaviour service summary, outlining key strategies and progress will be created and distributed to caregivers.
A behaviour service plan (BSP) is a road map to outline your care pathway. This ‘map’ is created in collaboration with the caregiver, client, and others who interact with the client. The map will outline the steps we will take to reach new heights and meet the summit of your current goals.
A behaviour program is like a packing list. It outlines the exact expectations and necessary items, strategies, and protocol to help meet your goals. Mountain Top Behavioural Consultation will individualize and tailor this packing list to meet you where you are currently.

Data is like the trail markers on the mountain, assisting us to make the best on the spot decisions. Data allows us to see if we are hitting the right trail markers and on the right path up the mountain. If the clinician deems that we are no longer on the right trail, then a course correction can be made.
Interfering behaviour has gone by many names (problem behaviour, challenging behaviour). At Mountain Top we like to frame it as any behaviour that limits one’s ability to function optimally in their daily lives. A formal behavioural program is needed to support you and your child/youth through their behavioural challenges. A behavioural program allows a registered professional to develop, implement and monitor your child’s behaviour and the effectiveness of the proposed strategies. Constant monitoring of the behavioural data allows clinicians to make real-time decisions and ensure the safety of your child, others and the environment. Interfering behaviour can include:
- Aggression towards others (hitting, kicking, biting, verbal, etc.)
- Self-injurious behaviours (head banging, biting self, etc.)
- Tantrum behaviours (flopping, screaming, etc.)
- Property destruction (breaking items, fecal smearing, etc.)
- Elopement (running away from house or in the community)
Our approach to behavioural services and treatment follows the age-old adage, where we will ‘teach one how to fish’ vs ‘giving you a fish’. The role of Mountain Top Behaviour Consultation is to provide you with the training tools and program to help solve current and future issues. It is the mantra of our centre to support and empower caregivers to feel confident in the climb ahead. As sherpas, clinicians will be there with you to problem solve as new challenges arise on the trail ahead.
Services can take place in your home, our community office (limited space available), via telehealth, or a mixture of all three.
